Canada’s Leylah Fernandez advances to quarterfinals at Strasbourg International

Leylah Fernandez is gaining some momentum ahead of the French Open. The Canadian booked a spot in the quarterfinals of the Strasbourg International with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over world No. 49 Magdalena Frech of Poland on Tuesday. Fernandez, seeded seventh at the clay-court event, had lost in her opening matches at the previous two tournaments. The WTA Tour 500 event in France is a tune-up for the French Open, which starts Sunday. Canada's Victoria Mboko is seeded first in Strasbourg and was scheduled to play later Tuesday.
