Red carpet escort sends special Olympians to 2026 Indiana Summer Games

Mishawaka, Ind. (WNDU) - A sendoff for local special Olympians as they hit the road for Terre Haute and the 2026 Indiana Summer Games. The St. Joseph County police rolled out a red-carpet-on-wheels escort Thursday night with lights flashing and sirens singing. They led the Olympians south from Marian High School in Mishawaka to the U-S 20 Bypass. Our local athletes headed into a field of nearly 2,500 special Olympians, ready to compete in track and field, powerlifting, volleyball, swimming and more.
