Miranda Weeks did not find immediate success when she first tried the pole vault. “Whenever I first started, I thought I was so bad,” Weeks said. “Jumping 7 feet when everyone else is jumping so high is not a good feeling.” The Mount Carmel graduate stuck with it and won state for the first time in her final high school meet, reaching 11 feet, 11¾ inches at the Class 5A championships in May.
