Jonathan Toews announces retirement after 16 seasons in the NHL

Jonathan Toews is hanging up his skates. The 38-year-old centre announced Friday that his National Hockey League career has come to an end. Toews spent the 2025-26 season with the Winnipeg Jets, returning to the NHL after two seasons away due to chronic inflammatory response syndrome linked to a COVID-19 infection he had in early 2020. Before his absence, Toews played 15 straight seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks.
