Bellbrook HS track and field: The good of the team, the growth of the individual

BELLBROOK, Ohio — Being on the Bellbrook High School (BHS) track and field (T&F) team is an opportunity to make new friends and work hard on things that you may have never done…or even thought about doing.

T&F is not an “easy” letter or a part-time sport. It requires commitment and dedication that start before late Feb., when practices begin (although we work with many multisport athletes, allowing flexibility for those completing their winter season). Athletes need to be willing to be uncomfortable. They learn to differentiate workout soreness or discomfort from what is truly a “pain” issue. They are expected to put in consistent effort and set realistic goals, while being ready to adjust those goals in the face of life’s challenges and unknowns.

The majority of the coaching staff has competed at a high level in high school, college and even beyond. We strive to share the love and enthusiasm that we gained from participating in sports. We hope to teach the next generation to appreciate the value of hard and dedicated effort, even when it doesn’t always yield the results that one has dreamed of.

It is amazing to see how our sport develops self-growth and maturity. We take great pride when a student improves in their events, to levels that they never imagined achieving. They may not always reach their ultimate goals; but they get stronger—physically, mentally and emotionally.

T&F allows students to hang out and work hard with their peers. A key is learning to get out of their “me” life and embrace the “we” life of being on a team. Understanding the journey of the individual and being part of a team is something to truly be embraced and valued.

Our spring 2026 season brought many accomplishments. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams won their division for the Southwest Buckeye League (SWBL), for the third time in the league’s history. They also set 11 new school records. Eight athletes represented BHS at the 2026 Division II state meet!

We anticipate continued growth in all returning athletes and welcome any new athletes—not just freshmen. Multiple sport athletes and those new to the sport are welcome.

The 2027 T&F season will hold its first official meet in early Apr., culminating in the state meet the first weekend in Jun. (at The Ohio State University).
