Cale Makar and the Colorado Avalanche have raised the bar for NHL contracts. The star defenceman officially inked an eight-year, $163.2-million contract to stay with the Avalanche for the long haul on Friday. Makar's new deal carries a $20.4-million average annual value, surpassing the $18.8-million AAV contract signed by San Jose Sharks star Macklin Celebrini earlier this summer as the largest in NHL history. The 27-year-old undoubtedly has the resume to back such a significant signing.
