18th-Ranked Captains Pull Away from Apprentice School for Anchor Bowl Victory, 43-14

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Christopher Newport University opened the 2026 football season with a 43-14 victory Saturday night over the Newport News Apprentice School. The win at TowneBank Stadium came in the inaugural Anchor Bowl pitting the two schools located just four miles apart.
