Women’s Tennis: Gkrekou Sweeps CNE Women’s Tennis Weekly Awards

BRISTOL, R.I. — Roger Williams University first-year Iris Gkrekou (Athens, Greece) was named the Conference of New England Women’s Tennis Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday. Gkrekou posted a combined 6-0 record during the opening week of her collegiate career, going 3-0 in singles competition and 3-0 alongside Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) at No. 1 doubles. Her performance helped Roger Williams begin its season with victories over Simmons University, Bridgewater State University and Wheaton College.
