Brian Kelly discussed why the head coaching openings at Maryland, NC State and Baylor could appeal to candidates, pointing to recruiting potential, conference competition and paths to the College Football Playoff. Kelly has been linked to all three jobs, but his comments focused on what makes each opportunity attractive—not on whether he plans to pursue one.

By the Numbers
  • 3 Power Four head coaching jobs are open: Maryland, NC State and Baylor.
  • The openings span 3 conferences: the Big Ten, ACC and Big 12.
Yes, But

Kelly’s coaching résumé has fueled speculation about his candidacy, but the remarks provided no confirmation that he is pursuing any of the openings. His departure from LSU last season also remains part of the context around his potential return to coaching.

Bottom Line

Kelly sees distinct strengths in all three jobs, especially their recruiting bases and potential to compete for a playoff spot. Whether any of them becomes his next move remains unknown.
