Sacramento’s 0-5 start has fueled speculation about coach Doug Christie’s job, but the Kings aren’t considering an early change. The team wants to evaluate him with a healthier roster, while judging his performance in part by the development of its young players.

By the Numbers
  • Sacramento is 0-5, the NBA’s only winless team; Brooklyn is 0-4.
  • Darius Acuff Jr. recorded 34 points and 14 assists against New Orleans.
  • Nique Clifford has played 27 total minutes across four games.
Yes, But

Christie isn’t on the hot seat now, but pressure could build: 2026-27 is the final guaranteed season of his contract, and the Kings hold a team option for 2027-28. Injuries have sidelined key rotation players, giving the organization reason to wait—but Clifford’s limited role raises questions about the development of Sacramento’s young talent.

Bottom Line

The Kings are giving Christie time, not a free pass. His case will depend on what he can do with a healthier roster and whether Sacramento’s young players make progress.
