Get to know Vanguard University athlete, Yorba Linda HS alum Faith Hunt
COSTA MESA, Calif. — Any athlete who has truly pursued excellence in a sport knows that there are many hours that go into perfecting one’s craft. From drilling fundamentals to fine-tuning high-level skills, there is no doubt that an immense amount of time and effort goes into reaching the pinnacle of any sport. With that in mind, it goes without saying that doing so in two separate sports requires not only an impeccable work ethic but also a unique athletic ability. Both of these principles certainly apply to Faith Hunt (20).
Faith is currently a Junior at Vanguard University, where she is a member of the University’s soccer and track and field teams. During her tenure in these sports, she has a combined 24 years of experience between the two. When asked what she loves most about them, Faith replied, “What I love about soccer is the exhilarating thrill I get from going into tackles, pushing myself past my limits, and battling it out alongside my teammates. What I love most about track & field is the camaraderie and bonding you experience at every meet, within your own team, and with other athletes from other teams!”
Prior to competing at Vanguard, Faith attended Friends Christian School from Kindergarten through 8th grade and Yorba Linda High School, where she was awarded female athlete of the year during her senior season! She mentioned that the best piece of advice passed along to her was, “To play for an ‘audience of one’. This means that whenever I step on the field, I give my 110% to the Lord because he is the one who has given me the gifts and ability to play soccer. I play for my teammates, I play for my coaches, and I play for my family, but I ultimately dedicate every game/track meet to the Lord.” With this in mind, her ultimate athletic goal is to “make relationships with my teammates that will last a lifetime and be the best teammate on and off the field and the track that I can be. By the time I graduate, my goal is to be able to win conference with both of my teams!”
Currently, Faith is one of the captains of the Vanguard women’s soccer team, but what is equally as impressive are her accomplishments in the classroom. She is now in her third year of a degree in kinesiology, which she hopes to use as an athletic trainer and/or physical therapist after graduation.
She is also a part of the Vanguard University Scholars Program! When asked what she enjoys outside of school and sports, Faith mentioned, “I love road trips with my family, beach days with my friends, going hiking, and going to country concerts with my fiancé, Cameron! I also enjoy singing on the worship team on Sunday mornings at Legacy Church in Tustin.”
If it wasn’t already apparent, “I am a ‘glass half-full’ type of person whose calendar is always jam-packed from saying yes to every opportunity, but will still always make time for friends, family, my fiancé, or a teammate in need! I love being on the go, but also love to sit back, unwind, and cozy up on the couch with a good cheesy movie,” said Faith. Athletics are certainly only one part of her story, but it sure is an impressive chapter!
