Meet members of the FAME All Stars cheerleading team

GREENVILLE, N.C. — Cheerleading has transformed into a competitive sport with over three million cheerleaders nationwide. The dedicated athletes train all year to develop and improve techniques with the goal of competing at a national level, while making friendships and creating memories.

Jordan Denton, a DH Conley sophomore, has been a part of FAME All Stars for nearly seven years. She is currently on a Regional Summit Championship Team, The Golden Girls, as well as a Senior 4 Team, Knockout. Jordan practices at least four times a week, with more practices scheduled when competitions are nearing.

FAME All Stars is a local cheer gym that offers programs for all ages and skill levels of cheerleading, including Competitive Cheerleading program. FAME, formerly ECCATS, works with the youth cheerleading teams to ensure they are “competition ready”. June Sanchez, owner of FAME All Stars, describes, “Fame is a home. The kids we service are my world. Our saying is ‘We are a Fameily’ and to everyone that knows us, we truly are. Our athletes are pushed hard but they are loved even harder.”

Jordan says, “My favorite thing about cheer is the bond I have with my teams and the bond I have with my coaches.” She also loves to hang out with her friends on her competition free weekends and go to the beach with her family. “My goal for cheering is to win the national Summit Competition in Orlando, FL.”

In April 2023, the “best of the best” will compete at The Summit in Orlando against other teams from around the world. It is considered a premiere end-of-season event, with more than a thousand performances held during the three-day competition, often referred to as the World Championship for youth cheerleading.

June explains, “We are constantly practicing to perfect our routines so that each athlete feels confident when they step on the floor. We strive to be the best in every aspect of the sport and our athletes are coached as such, while having an amazing time with their teammates and families.”

Another passionate cheerleader, Finley Bundy, was inspired by Jordan and has been cheering for two years. The nine-year-old cheer enthusiast, hit the mat at the young age of only 18-months old at Roses Gymnastics. Finley fell in love with tumbling and explains, “My friend Jordan is a cheerleader and she was always doing these cool tricks! That’s when I decided I wanted to give cheer a try.”

Finley also competes on two teams at FAME All Stars, Lady Legacy and Prodigy, and practices choreography, dance, stunts and tumbling four times a week. “My favorite thing about cheerleading is flying, tumbling and getting to create new stunts and tricks with my friends. My favorite trick is the ‘round off back handspring back tuck’.” The fourth grader at Greenville Christian Academy also enjoys arts and crafts, softball, dancing and swimming, along with visits to her favorite places, Starbucks and Chick-fila.

Jordan and Finley both love traveling for competitions and testing their skills against some of the greatest athletes from across the nation. The Denton and Bundy families have traveled to Charlotte, Greensboro, Richmond, Baltimore, Myrtle Beach and Orlando to represent Greenville’s FAME All Stars in the competitive cheerleading world.

Jordan encourages anyone interested in cheering and following their dreams, “to never give up, just keep going and try your best!” Aspiring cheer coach Finley suggests living by her favorite quote, “I believe in me, I believe in you, I believe in us, I believe in this team, I believe in Fame!”
