Shippensburg football names Scott Brisson as assistant coach

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Shippensburg University has a new football coach.

Scott Brisson has been hired as a full-time assistant coach for the SU football team. Brisson will serve as the team’s offensive coordinator and will coach the team’s quarterbacks.

“I am extremely happy to have Scott join our football family at Shippensburg University,” said head coach Mark Maciejewski. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our staff and to our program. Scott is an outstanding teacher of the game and his passion for success is contagious.

He understands the importance of building relationships with the players on and off the field. He is not only a great addition to our football family but also to the entire Shippensburg University and the Shippensburg community.”

Brisson comes to the Cumberland Valley after eight years in the Lehigh Valley, where he served as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Lehigh University, a Division 1 FCS institution.

At Lehigh, Brisson took part in the famous Lehigh-Lafayette football rivalry, the longest uninterrupted and most-played rivalry game in college football.
He joined the Lehigh coaching staff as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator in 2014, before being promoted to the role of offensive coordinator in 2017.

Under Brisson’s stewardship, the Mountain Hawks averaged nearly 24 points per game over their final five games during the 2021 season and ended the campaign with three consecutive victories.

Brisson previously spent the 2008 and 2009 seasons on the Mountain Hawks’ staff and returned following stints at St. Lawrence University and Lycoming College.

At St. Lawrence, Brisson served as offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator. In 2010, he was instrumental in shepherding the program to its first conference championship in school history. In 2013, he helped guide Lycoming to a Middle Atlantic Conference title.

Prior to his first stint at Lehigh, Brisson spent two seasons as the wide receivers coach at Franklin & Marshall. He also had the role of coordinator of the punt return unit.

Brisson is a graduate of Bowdoin College (2006) with degrees in Government and Sociology. He was a four-year letterman at wide receiver, and helped Bowdoin garner its most wins in 36 seasons during his senior year.

The new Shippensburg neighbor has a wife, Catherine, and a 1-year-son named Mac.
