Meet White Bear Township area youth basketball player Connor Jamieson

WHITE BEAR TOWNSHIP, Minn. — Connor Jamieson has been playing White Bear Recreational Basketball for the past 4 years, and currently plays for the Marines, a WB 8th grade Recreational Team. He has also participated in other sports such as soccer, baseball and lacrosse. ”I like the fast pace and high activity of the game. I also like the freedom you have and all the different ways there are to score. To me, the game never gets old, and it never gets boring,” said Connor. He believes a good player needs to be athletic, dedicated and be willing to work as a team. Being a member of a team has taught him to have confidence to work together with his teammates.

His current team is undefeated – the team’s most recent score a win of 59-6! “My favorite time from the sport was when our team was down 14 points going into the fourth quarter, and we ended up winning by 1 point with 0.1 seconds left on the clock,” said Connor. His greatest accomplishment has been improving and pushing to get better. “I am much much better at basketball than I was a year ago, and I think that the most important part of playing a sport at my age is to get better,” said Connor.

The first 2 years of playing basketball he didn’t put in the effort needed to be a good player. Over the off-season he worked hard and it paid off – “I was a completely different player by the time the next season started,” said Connor. The best piece of advice he has received is “to just keep shooting, or in other words, don’t give up, and if you’re playing badly, just keep trying and practicing and you WILL get better!” Connor’s supporters are his parents and coach, “who have all shown nothing but support for me, and I would like to thank them for always believing in me,” he said.

“My current goal moving forward with basketball is to make the WB High School Team next year, and I plan to practice over summer to make sure that happens.”
