Richmond football sees William and Mary game cancelled, JMU game pushed to April 17
RICHMOND, Va. (BVM) — A decision has been made by the Colonial Athletic Association regarding two delayed University of Richmond football games. On April 9, the conference announced that it would cancel the April 10 game scheduled against William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. due to Covid-19–related protocols within the William & Mary program. However, the Spiders will be able to play in their game against James Madison University which was rescheduled for Saturday, April 17 at 2 p.m. in Harrisonburg, Va.

The news of the delayed game against JMU is a significant one for the Richmond team. Currently ranked as the No. 12 team in the country in the FCS Coaches Top 25 Poll at 3-0 (3-0 in the CAA), the Spiders and the No. 1-ranked Dukes who are 4-0 (2-0 in the CAA) are tied at the top of the South Division of the conference. Having a game against the two highly–ranked teams will have a significant impact on potential playoff seeding for the upcoming FCS Playoffs.
However, the decision is even more important for Richmond as a fourth game makes the team eligible for postseason play as the minimum threshold to play in the playoffs currently sits at four games. With many people in the state of Virginia expected to watch the highly-ranked matchup, the CAA announced that the game could be seen on both FloFootball.com and NBC Sports Washington Plus.
With playoff seeding on the line, football fans across Virginia will have to mark their calendars for when the Spiders visit the Dukes on April 17.
