Sun Belt All-Conference player heading to SEC

STARKVILLE, Miss. (BVM) — The Mississippi State Bulldog women’s soccer team announced on Wednesday that it signed Gwen Mummert, a former defensive player from Louisiana Lafayette.

Mummert helped the Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer teams achieve an overall record of 10-9-1 during the 2020-21 season.

“We are thrilled to add Gwen to our soccer family,” said Mississippi State women’s head soccer coach James Armstrong in a press release. “She is a great competitor, leader and someone with a lot of prior collegiate experience. Please help us in welcoming her to StarkVegas!”

This past season, Mummert was one of seven players to play in 20 matches and only one of two to start in all competitions. During the 2020 season, she scored two goals, had two assists and six points at the end of her junior season. She would earn her second-straight first-team All-Sun Belt award.

With that award, she became just one of three Louisiana Lafayette players to earn two first-team all-conference awards in program history.

She actually faced Mississippi State on Feb. 28. The Ragin’ Cajuns fell to the Bulldogs 3-1, but Mummert had an assist on the lone goal against MSU.

Mummert joining the Bulldogs is a nice boost to their defense. The Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 6-4-3. She’ll look to boost the Bulldogs and help them reach the top of the SEC.
