Colorado State’s Eric Hamer earns top Mountain West T&F honor

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (BVM) — An integral member of the Colorado State men’s track and field and cross country teams was rewarded Wednesday for his part in leading the Rams to another conference title this past spring. Graduate student Eric Hamer was named the Mountain West Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, becoming just the second CSU athlete to earn the honor and the first since thrower Mostafa Hassan won the award in 2016.

The Monument, Colo., native took first place in both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter races at the 2021 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships while helping the Rams capture the conference title as a team. Hamer, who also recently competed in the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, holds school records in both the 5,000 and 10,000m.

Hamer is a two-time All-American selection for indoor track and field and he was named the Mountain West Men’s Indoor Student-Athlete of the Year in 2020. He was also named an All-American for cross country after his redshirt junior season in 2018.
