Keon Coleman enters transfer portal; Top landing spots
EAST LANSING, Mich. (BVM) – Michigan State’s 2023 outlook changed drastically at the closing of the transfer deadline, with both wide receiver Keon Coleman and quarterback Payton Thorne deciding to enter their names into the portal.
The former four-star recruit enjoyed an impressive sophomore campaign, totaling nearly 800 receiving yards and seven touchdowns during the Spartans’ 5-7 season. After playing sparingly as a freshman, Coleman proved to be one of the budding pieces set to help the Michigan State program bounce back from its disappointing 2022 year.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound junior wide receiver followed suit when it came to his quarterback’s move into the portal on the final day of the transfer window, announcing that the tandem would likely be moving in different directions. With Jayden Reed’s time at the collegiate level ending after last season, Coleman was expected to be the main beneficiary of an offense looking for skilled playmakers. With the team’s starting quarterback and top wide receiver moving on, deadline day became a tough hit for the future of the Spartans program.
With over 40 offers from Division I programs coming out of high school, the standout wide receiver will have a host of suitors to pick from as he likely pairs with one of college football’s elite quarterbacks. Here’s a look at the six teams that could find themselves in the running.
