A look back at Westfield High School’s 2022 – 2023 athletic season
WESTFIELD, Ind. — This year, the Westfield High School athletic department turned in a performance for the record books. Lots of student-athletes performed well on and off the field, and we even had several brand new teams field a squad for their inaugural seasons. This wrap-up is just a taste of the accomplishments our Rocks had this season. Be sure to catch some games, matches and tournaments next year because Westfield has some athletes who will be playing at an even higher level.
Football
The Rocks football team had another strong season, adding another sectional championship to its long list of accomplishments. The speedy Gabe Aramboles turned in a powerful season and placed himself in the conversation of the best receivers in the state.
Boys Soccer
Once again, Liam Lloyd performed well on and off the field. He and fellow senior Yahir Lopez were named to the All-District Team, while Lloyd, and his company, Red Applications, won first place in the Westfield Chamber of Commerce pitch competition. He also won the Innovate WithIN regional competition and is on his way to compete at the state innovation competition for the second year in a row.
Girls Golf
The sectional championship came down to a battle of two Rocks when junior Samantha Brown and sophomore Addisson Kooi faced off against each other for the crown. It went to a 7-hole player with Brown edging out her teammate.
Boys Cross Country
Senior Sam Hinds advanced to the Shelbyville Semi-State competition with the 9th fastest time in the history of Westfield cross country. Hinds will attend IUPUI where he will run cross country and track.
Gymnastics
Westfield High School fielded its first-ever gymnastics team, and they hit the scene with authority. The team placed third in sectionals and made it to regionals in their inaugural season. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this program.
Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team saw the emergence of new leaders: new head coach Kelsey Key and junior guard Ellie Kelleher. Averaging 11.5 points, 3.2 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game, Kelleher is poised for an impressive senior season. This year, she received two scholarship offers and was named an Indiana Junior All-Star
Boys Volleyball
Another first for Westfield High School, the boys volleyball team had a great first season, notching 18 wins to only 7 losses. This squad previously competed as a club team, so they brought their chemistry with them to the court and set a great foundation for the future of the program.
Girls Lacrosse
The school’s first girls lacrosse team had a strong season. The season ended with a tough loss to Noblesville, but they still earned a ranking of 8th in the state! Keep up the great work Rocks!
Boys Lacrosse
The first season for boys lacrosse began and ended with wins, but in between there were lots of ups and downs. The team competed hard and took a few one-score losses. Senior Sawyer Strong has committed to play at Grove City College, but they are poised to come back strong next season.
