Bob Huggins resigns; 5 candidates to replace WVU head coach
MORGANTOWN, W.Va (BVM) – The West Virginia University men’s basketball team is in search of a new leader following the sudden resignation of former head coach Bob Huggins on Saturday. Huggins stepped down following a DUI arrest on Friday night, which came just over a month after he used an anti-gay slur in an interview with a Cincinnati radio station and was suspended three games for the upcoming season.
Now, after 16 seasons of stability, the Mountaineers program is set for a world of uncertainty. With many rosters across the country already taking shape, West Virginia finds itself in desperate need of a new coach in a hurry.
Given its standing in the Big 12 Conference and its reputation as a traditionally strong D-I program, the Mountaineers vacancy should interest a number of coaches and the school should be able to select from a high number of solid candidates. With that being said, here are the top five head coach candidates to replace Huggins.
