Meet new Northern Colorado head football coach Ed Lamb

GREELEY, Colo. — Ed Lamb prepares for his first season as Head Football Coach at the University of Northern Colorado. Like almost all coaches, Lamb feels that the culture of his program is important, so he never misses a day in the weight room with his players and other assistant coaches. Lamb comes to Greeley from BYU where he was the Assistant Head Coach.

He replaces Ed McCaffrey who was let go after the 2022 season. McCaffrey was at the helm for three years even though his teams only played two seasons due to lockdowns during the covid year. Lamb feels that it’s important that he only asks his team to do what he’s willing to do himself. He sets an incredible example for his players and Bears fans are hoping that translates to victories on Saturdays this fall.

He feels fortunate to have been asked to take over this position at the FCS program which plays in the extremely competitive Big Sky Conference. The Bears suffered significant injuries last season including one to preseason All-America Sr. Linebacker David Hoage who returns following knee surgery.

Lamb is excited to welcome Hoage back along with Quarterback Sr. QB Jacob Sirmon who is known for a strong arm and outstanding leadership qualities. Sirmon backed up McCaffrey’s son Dylan last year and has been patiently awaiting the opportunity to be the full-time starter since transferring from Central Michigan over two years ago.
