Defensive back Devin Moore is one of the best in the business
NAPLES, Fla. — Since he was named a starter in his freshman season, Devin Moore hasn’t looked back. He just wrapped up his senior season as a cornerback for the Naples High School Golden Eagles. He’s had an unbelievable high school football career and has garnered numerous awards and recognitions as a member of the Golden Eagles football team.
Perhaps none of his accolades are more impressive than being named to the prestigious All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The All-American Bowl is the most sought-after accolade for high school football players across the country. It features the top 100 seniors in the country who get together and participate in what is effectively the ultimate high school football all-star game.
Moore is only the fourth player from Naples High School to participate in the event and hopes to follow in the footsteps of previous participants including Odell Beckham Jr., Trevor Lawrence and Ezekiel Elliot. Each of those players went on to be first-round draft picks and Moore hopes to one day join them in the NFL.
“It’s a dream come true,” Moore said of his selection. “Football has forever been my first love, and I’ve been watching (the All-American Bowl) since I was young. I’m excited to be on the big stage and compete against all the best players in the nation.”
Moore is currently ranked as a top 55 cornerback in the nation and is a top ten cornerback in the state of Florida, which is home to some of the best players in the country.
“Devin’s got athleticism and length. He’s strong, fast, versatile,” said Steve Quinn, who is on the All-American Bowl selection committee. “Whatever kid he’s on, he takes him out of the game. He’s the kind of all-around athlete we want in our game.”
As if earning a berth in the All-American Bowl isn’t enough, Moore also received scholarship offers from 25 Power Five college teams. Among schools offering Moore a scholarship were SEC powerhouses Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Florida. Each of these schools would have offered Moore a way to stay closer to home, but he ultimately committed to Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana.
At 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, Moore has unique size and strength at the cornerback position. Despite his physical stature, Moore doesn’t sacrifice speed or agility and has the ability to cover receivers in a wide variety of defenses. He’s also one of the best tackling cornerbacks in Florida. Throughout his career, Moore has a total of 160 tackles and 10 interceptions, including one in his junior season that he returned for a touchdown.
Moore is big, strong, fast, versatile and smart. He managed to carry a 4.1 GPA through his junior year in high school and carries his smarts onto the football field. He has an incredibly high football IQ, which makes him a dual threat on defense at both cornerback and safety. He’s big enough, smart enough and athletic enough to play either position, and Notre Dame has a star in the making with Moore.
