Panther Creek HS cheer team is having a strong competitive season

CARY, N.C. — The Panther Creek Varsity Cheerleading team started their season the first week of August, and since then, they haven’t slowed down with many successes over the last few months. They began their season attending cheerleading camp that taught new skills and named six PCHS cheerleaders as titles of “All American Cheerleaders.” The varsity team consists of five seniors, five juniors, three sophomores, and two freshmen, and is led by three senior captains Kinsey Anger, Aarini Chauhan, and Chelsea Wilson. Under Samantha Sopko (myself), and many new members to the squad this year, they all clicked together quickly and have had incredible chemistry on the mats. The squad has been accomplishing new goals through tumbling and stunting every practice while they cheered for football games on Friday nights. The very talented Panther Creek Varsity Football Team made it to the 4th round of the playoff season, all while getting ready for their competition season that began on November 13 and preparing for basketball season that began on November 22.

PCHS Varsity Cheerleading had a strong first competition finish at the UCA Triangle Regional at the Dorton Arena on Saturday, November 13, 2021. The team placed first in the “Small Coed Varsity Division” and additionally earned a bid to the prestigious UCA Cheerleading Nationals that is held at the Wide World of Sports in Disney World. This was Panther Creek’s first bid earned to attend the event. UCA Nationals is the most competitive national event for high school cheerleading.

The team continued their competition run on Saturday December 4 at the Raleigh Convention Center, as they competed for a State Championship. We are proud to say that in the North Carolina State Cheerleading Championship, the Panther Creek Varsity Team placed 4th out of 11 teams in the Small Coed division. They were the only team to hit a 0 deduction routine and, in addition, earned their second bid to UCA Nationals!

While our girls did not win the SWAC Conference Championship, I was honored to receive the 2021-22 SWAC Cheerleading Coach of the Year recognition! I could not have done it without the squad. I am so proud and honored to be their coach.
