Chaz Lanier enters transfer portal: 5 possible landing spots

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (BVM) – Shortly after the end of North Florida’s 2023-24 season, first-team All-ASUN guard Chaz Lanier declared for the NBA draft while maintaining his college eligibility. A little over a month later, it appears a potential fifth season of college basketball will occur elsewhere as Lanier recently entered the transfer portal.

Lanier was a Mr. Basketball finalist in Tennessee during a brilliant high school career at Ensworth in Nashville before joining North Florida in 2020. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound guard played in just 10 games as a freshman before earning around 20 minutes per contest the following two seasons.

In 2023-24, Lanier’s game took a huge step forward as he played 33 minutes per contest for the Ospreys, averaging 19.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists while impressively shooting 51% from the field and 44% from 3-point range.

Even though his ascension occurred at the mid-major level, Lanier’s proven shooting ability should make him a sought-after guard in the transfer portal if he returns for his final collegiate season. Here are five potential landing spots for Lanier.
