LONDON, Ontario — The London Cricket League (LCL) concluded its thrilling 2024 season with the Premier and Elite Division finals, showcasing the best teams from a fierce competition involving 14 clubs. Throughout the season, each team played 13 matches in a round-robin format. After the initial round, the top seven teams advanced to the Elite Division, while the bottom seven competed in the Premier Division. The league saw more than 300 players registered across the 14 teams, making it a testament to the passion for cricket within the community. The two finals, held on the 28th and 29th of September, brought cricket enthusiasts together, both at the grounds and online, to witness some exhilarating performances.

Premier Division Final: London Cricket Club Titans vs. London Phoenix XI
The Premier Division final saw London Cricket Club Titans face off against London Phoenix XI at Northridge Cricket Ground on September 28th at 12:30 PM. It was a closely fought match with Phoenix XI ultimately emerging victorious by 20 runs.
Batting first, London Phoenix XI set a challenging target of 194 runs, losing 9 wickets in their allotted 30 overs. The batting highlight for Phoenix was Bharatt, who played an impressive knock of 61 runs off 67 balls. He was well supported by Kalidas, who contributed 25 runs off just 19 balls, and Remon, who added 22 runs off 22 balls. The Titans’ bowling was led by Swapnil Raj, who picked up 4 crucial wickets for 32 runs in his 6 overs, putting pressure on the Phoenix XI batting line-up. Thausif, Emil, Sohaib, and Madhu each chipped in with a wicket.

In response, LCC Titans got off to a solid start, reaching 142 for the loss of just 2 wickets in 23 overs. The momentum was with Titans until a turning point when Sohaib, who was batting brilliantly, sustained an injury and had to retire hurt. Despite a valiant effort by the remaining batsmen, Titans fell short of the target, scoring 174 for 9 in 30 overs. Elite Division Final: Royals vs. Sarnia A
The Elite Division final, held on Sunday, September 29th at 11 AM, featured a showdown between Royals and Sarnia A. The match was streamed live on CricClub, attracting over 1,000 viewers online, showcasing the growing interest in local cricket.
Sarnia A batted first, scoring 165 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 30 overs. Savan played a vital innings, scoring 71 runs off 85 balls, anchoring the innings and ensuring his team posted a competitive total. Albin also made a valuable contribution with 24 runs off 18 balls. Royals’ bowling attack was led by Uschreet, who picked up 2 wickets for 28 runs in his 4 overs, while Captain Sandhu, Saas, Ravisher, and Kamal each took a wicket.

In their chase, Royals started well but faltered after reaching 80 runs, losing wickets at regular intervals. They were eventually bowled out for 143 runs in 28.2 overs, falling short of the target by 22 runs.
