West Ottawa HS names Trent Mulder, Natalie Blake athletes of the season
HOLLAND, Mich. — Trent Mulder had an incredible senior campaign on the lacrosse field. The WO lacrosse team finished 13-6 and Trent was an integral part of that success. He was asked to change positions (from honorable-mention all-state midfielder to attack) in order to help the team. He was a tremendous threat on attack, dodging, shooting and especially launching the flamethrower on man-up opportunities. Trent scored 71 goals and also had 32 assists for the season. He earned All-Conference and Division 1 Honorable-Mention All-State. Trent has committed to compete at the next level. He has signed with Otterbein University in Ohio to continue his education and lacrosse career.
Natalie Blake
In Natalie Blake’s relatively short pole vaulting career she has obtained unprecedented heights. She finished her career at West Ottawa as state runner-up, school record holder, and just one of eight girls in Michigan history to clear 13 feet in pole vault.
Pole vault is an extremely technical event, so for her to have the success she’s had so quickly is a testament to her hard work. Natalie started pole vaulting just before the pandemic hit (which had its own set of challenges). She has had an amazing support network around her, including her family, friends, teammates and coaches, but her success comes back to her own hard work, focus and desire to be the best she can be. She’s a special athlete and person. We will miss her leadership on our team but are excited to see her compete at the next level at MSU next year.
