U-12 boys Springfield Blue Sox win Southeast State Championship

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. — Congratulations to the U-12 boys Springfield Blue Sox Baseball team for winning the Southeast State Championship!

Springfield hosted the tournament at the Netherwood Fields over the 4th of July weekend. The Blue Sox were undefeated in the tournament, capping it off with a 4-0 victory over Upper Perkiomen in the championship game. It was a true team effort with superb pitching, clutch hitting and some heads-up fielding to give them their second and last shot as a team in the regional competition. Head Coach, Tony Flynn, said “the boys act like brothers on and off the field, they pick each other up when they are down, and feed off each others accomplishments.” There was a quote going around during the tournament started by one of the assistant coaches from a well known baseball movie in which I will paraphrase for our reading audience, “There’s only one thing left to do….win the whole dang thing!”. That’s just what they did and hope to continue as the their season rolls on/continues!

This team is no stranger to success and has had its core of players together since the U-9 age group. In the last four years they have won 16 tournaments, two district championships and two state championships. They have a regional Mid Atlantic semifinals appearance and have an overall record of 120-22-1. This championship and opportunity are extra special because after this season the players will have to decide whether to play American Legion ball, club ball or stop playing all together. It’s their final year of Springfield youth ball.

As a lifelong athlete and sports parent, I know that a lot of time, hard work, and sacrifice went into this victory. The friendships that were forged with the team and the parents will last a lifetime, and, although the end may be bittersweet, they should be very proud of their accomplishments. Good luck boys, and keep up those winning ways!
