Bellbrook Golden Eagles are set for a deep playoff run
BELLBROOK, Ohio — The 2021-22 Ohio high school football playoff pairings have been released, and the Bellbrook Golden Eagles received the third seed. Bellbrook has drawn a home game against the tough Trotwood-Madison Rams. Both Bellbrook and Trotwood-Madison made strong runs in the 2020 OHSSA playoffs but fell short.
The Golden Eagles finished the season with an 8-2 overall record, going 4-0 in the Southwestern Buckeye league. Trotwood-Madison finished the season with a 4-5 overall record but posted an unblemished league record of 3-0. If high school football fans enjoy shootouts, they’re in for a good one on Friday night.
Jeff Jenkins has Bellbrook ready to make another great run in the OHSSA playoffs, but can they make it to the state final four? That run begins at home on Friday night, and Jenkins’ team will have back-to-back home games if they defeat Trotwood-Madison on Friday.
With a win, the Golden Eagles will meet the winner of Wapakoneta (8-2) and Dunbar (4-3). Bellbrook is sitting in a great position as the No. 3 seed this year. Seth Borondy and the Golden Eagles have defeated two of the eight teams in their bracket in Tippecanoe and Monroe.
Bellbrook is 5-1 at home and wouldn’t play a road playoff game until meeting Monroe. Before Jenkins’ team can get ahead of themselves, they must focus on the task at hand, and that’s Trotwood-Madison. The Golden Eagles have scored 361 points this season compared to the 168 scored by the Rams.
Defensively, Bellbrook has surrendered 14 more points than Trotwood-Madison, but this game has an offensive feel. Trotwood-Madison must match touchdowns with Bellbrook, which isn’t an easy task. Bellbrook is averaging 36 points per game this season.
Bellbrook has won six straight games and is one of the hottest teams heading into the OHSSA playoffs. The Golden Eagles have outscored their opponents 282-93 in the last six games. If Trotwood-Madison wants to pull off the upset on Friday, they’ll need to keep Bellbrook’s offense off the field.
When looking at the breakdown of scores by quarter, Bellbrook has averaged points in every quarter this season. Trotwood-Madison is a slow-starting team that has averaged zero points in the first quarter. That remains the same after halftime, where the Rams are averaging 1.5 points in the third quarter this season.
As long as Bellbrook can take it one game at a time, they’ll cruise right into the final four in the OHSSA playoffs.
