Le Jardin overcame the odds to reach HHSAA DII boys basketball state tournament
KAILUA, Hawaii — Le Jardin Academy boys basketball, which has endured recent losing seasons, attrition, injury, and Covid issues, beat all of the odds in 2022 to send their team to the Hawaii Boys Basketball State Tournament.
While fielding a roster of only six full-time players — including one extra player that practiced/played with them part-time, because the seventh player is a standout boys soccer varsity player — opposing teams would attempt to run them to exhaustion with full-court presses, try to foul them out, and just out-number and out-man them in attempts to derail the team. During the season, league tournament, and during state tournament play, the team just kept coming back from deficits; every time the opposing team would make a run, they would match it, play for play. They fought through exhaustion, playing three state games in under 48 hours’ time — all with 6 players.
