Weston falls to Newton South, 9-1, despite shining moments on the mound

WESTON, Mass. — In the final afternoon game of the regular season, the Weston Wildcats took a tough loss 9-1 at home versus Newton North. But, regardless of the loss, Weston had some shining moments.

The game opened up strong for Weston as starting pitcher Nicholas Cross put together a really nice performance. While Cross doesn’t consider himself a pitcher, he has made a significant improvement on the mound since last season. At this game, he was able to consistently find the zone and was pretty competitive on the mound, striking out five batters.

Also up at pitching was Weston’s shortstop Marco Buchbinder, who wound up in the pitching role due to a taxing game the previous day. Buchbinder did a nice job on the mound being competitive on pitches while not trying to injure his arm for the upcoming game on Friday.

In addition to a great pitching day, Cross had two hits, one of them being a triple and the other being a run scored. Cross also recorded a stolen base. Anthony Jorajuria recorded a single and Buchbinder recorded a double.

The Wildcats look to bounce back on Friday versus their rivals the Wayland Warriors. Last season, Weston had a 3-1 record versus Wayland, and they look to continue that on Senior Night at home at 7pm. Benoit Schiermeier gets the start for Weston in arguably their biggest game of the season.
