Aaron Rodgers arrives at Packers camp as ‘Con Air’ Nic Cage

GREEN BAY, Wis. (BVM) – We are still a few months away from Halloween, a recent hallmark of Aaron Rodgers’. However, that didn’t stop the Green Bay Packers’ quarterback from showing up to the first day of training camp as Nicolas Cage’s character, Cameron Poe, from the 1997 film, “Con Air.”

Last year, Rodgers grew his hair out to dress as Keanu Reeves’ John Wick for Halloween.

The question isn’t why Rodgers decided to channel Nic Cage for the first day of his 18th season. What should be asked is this: Is Aaron Rodgers sending a warning shot to the rest of the NFL?

“Con Air” came out the summer after the Green Bay Packers, led by Brett Favre, won Super Bowl XXXI against the New England Patriots. The 1997 season marked the third straight league MVP award for Favre and a return trip to the Super Bowl – this time a loss to the Denver Broncos.

At this point in his career, Rodgers, 38, is only lacking an additional Super Bowl appearance to Favre during his Packers tenure. Rodgers is the NFL’s reigning back-to-back MVP. This certainly seems like a statement from No. 12 to the league that he plans to three-peat as MVP and take his Packers back to the Super Bowl for the first time since conquering the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010 to return the Lombardi Trophy to Lambeau Field.

The uncertainty of Rodgers’ future in Green Bay after 17 seasons was shored up with a contract extension in mid-March to the tune of an additional three years for $150.8 million. That keeps QB1 with the Packers through 2026, but the contract can be voided in 2025 should Rodgers retire after turning 41 years old.

One thing is for sure: The clock is ticking in Green Bay to win the franchise’s fifth Super Bowl. With a depleted offensive line and the departure of All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, the Packers and Rodgers will certainly be tested this season.
