LiAngelo Ball joins LaMelo on Hornets training camp roster

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BVM) – The Charlotte Hornets announced on Monday that the team signed free agent guard LiAngelo Ball, the older brother of 2021 NBA Rookie of the Year, LaMelo Ball.

LiAngelo appeared in 36 games (six starts) last season for the Greensboro Swarm (G League affiliate of the Hornets) and averaged 5.6 points (45.7 FG%, 40.2 3P%) and 1.4 rebounds in 13.4 minutes per game. The Chino Hills, California native led all players in eight G League Showcase games with a 53.6 percentage (15-of-28) from 3-point range.

The 2022 Summer League saw LiAngelo average six points and two rebounds in 11.5 minutes per game for the Hornets after posting 9.6 points, two rebounds and 1.6 steals in 17.4 minutes per game during the 2021 Summer League. In 2017-18, he appeared in 14 games (six starts) for Vytautas Prienu in Lithuania while averaging 12.6 points (42.5 FG%, 41.5 3P%) and 2.9 rebounds in 21.7 minutes per game.

LiAngelo now joins his younger brother, LaMelo, on the Hornets Training Camp Roster that currently stands at 20. After being named the 2020-21 NBA Rookie of the Year, LaMelo earned his first NBA All-Star Game nod as an injury replacement for Kevin Durant.

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed but The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that LiAngelo is signing a non-guaranteed deal with the Hornets.
