Top 10 Wisconsin Badgers running backs of all time
10. Terrell Fletcher (1991-1994)
Corey Clement, John Clay, and Fletcher’s backfield running mate Brent Moss are all names that could go in this spot. However, Fletcher gets the slight nod due to his 3,925 career scrimmage yards and being 10th all time in program history with 3,414 career rushing yards. Both Fletcher and Moss were the original backs who turned Wisconsin into the dominant, run-heavy program it is today, as both guys thrived under new head coach Barry Alvarez from 1991-94. Fletcher came out strong as a freshman with 541 total yards and five touchdowns, and put up the exact same yardage total in 1992. However, it was the 1993 campaign that Fletcher really began to emerge. While Moss ran for 1,637 yards that season – the ninth-best single-season mark in program history – as well as 16 touchdowns, Fletcher also finished just shy of 1,000 yards on the ground with 996, racking up over 1,100 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns. The 1993 season was a special one in Madison, as the two backs led the Badgers to their first Rose Bowl appearance in over three decades, and the program’s first victory in the game. Fletcher would take full control of the backfield as Moss played in just seven games in 1994, racking up a career-best 1,476 rushing yards and 13 total touchdowns. The St. Louis native would go on to have a strong eight-year NFL career with the San Diego Chargers.
