Top 5 Indiana girls basketball players in Class of 2023
5. McKenna Layden, G, Northwestern
Layden is as consistent as they come, and impresses every time she takes the court for Northwestern. As just a sophomore, Layden averaged 22.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.1 assists, and she followed that up with similar numbers of 22.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.8 steals as a junior. Last season, the 6-foot-1 guard became a 1,000-point scorer, also setting a program record with 47 points in a single game. Like a few others on this list, Layden comes from a basketball family, as her mom, Kathie Layden, has led the Northwestern girls basketball program to multiple state titles. McKenna’s older sister, Madison, was also a standout at Northwestern and currently stars at Purdue. McKenna will join her older sister with the Boilermakers next season, but will first look to cap off what has been an impressive run for the Layden family at Northwestern the past few years.
