Top 5 Thanksgiving Day games in NFL history
1. 1993: Miami Dolphins 16, Dallas Cowboys 14
Snow in Dallas set the stage for the greatest Thanksgiving Day game of all time. With both teams vying for playoff spots, the Dolphins (8-2) were without Dan Marino and trailed the Cowboys (7-3) 14-13 with 15 seconds left. Miami kicker Pete Stoyanovich went out to attempt a 41-yard field goal but had it blocked by Dallas defensive tackle Jimmie Jones. While his teammates celebrated, Cowboys’ defensive lineman Leon Lett ran toward the football, tried to pick it up and kicked the ball as he slipped on the frozen, snow-covered turf. The Dolphins recovered the loose ball and Stoyanovich made a 19-yard field goal to give Miami a 16-14 victory. It was the final loss of Jimmy Johnson’s tenure as head coach of the Cowboys (they won out on their way to a second consecutive Super Bowl title) while the Dolphins didn’t win again for the rest of the season.
