Top 10 Alabama Crimson Tide players of all time
8. Tua Tagovailoa (2017-19)
Prior to Saban coming in, Alabama always had a rich history of quarterbacks going back several decades to the likes of Starr, Namath and Stabler. Saban has of course also had some special quarterbacks come through the program, but what Tagovailoa did in his three years in Tuscaloosa was special. The legend began as Tagovailoa replaced a struggling Jalen Hurts in the 2018 National Championship game, rallying Alabama to an overtime victory over rival Georgia. Becoming the full-time starter in 2018, the 6-foot Hawaii native threw for an incredible 3,966 yards and 43 touchdowns, the third-best and second-best marks in program history, respectively. After winning both the Walter Camp Award and Maxwell Award while finishing runner-up in the Heisman race in 2018, Tagovailoa put up strong numbers again in 2019 before having his season cut short due to multiple injuries suffered on a brutal hit against Texas A&M. Still, despite missing action and being a backup during a fair portion of his Bama career, Tagovailoa has the fourth-most passing yards in program history (7,442) and the most career passing touchdowns (87).
