Ranking the top 10 Dallas Mavericks players of all time

7. Jason Terry (2004-2012)

Terry was about as consistent as they come, and helped lead the Mavericks to their greatest moment in franchise history. The former Arizona Wildcats star began his NBA career playing five seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, but joined the Mavs in 2004 where he became a regular starter in his first few years in Dallas. One of Terry’s best seasons came in 2005-06 as he averaged 17.1 points and shot over 41% from deep, helping the Mavericks to a Western Conference championship. “The Jet” moved into a bench role for the majority of the rest of his career in Dallas and truly thrived in it, being named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2008-09 – a season in which he averaged a career-best 19.6 points. However, Terry’s highlight in a Mavs uniform came in the 2011 postseason, where he helped lead Dallas to the NBA Finals. Throughout the playoffs, he averaged 17.5 points while shooting an incredible 44% from 3-point range. In a couple of decisive contests to wrap up the NBA Finals, Terry put up 21 points against the Heat in Game 5, and 27 to close them out in Game 6. Terry’s 9,953 points rank sixth all time in Mavs’ franchise history, while his 1,466 points in the playoffs are second only to Dirk Nowitzki. He is also second to Dirk in all-time 3-point makes (1,140), but first when it comes to makes beyond the arc in the playoffs (167).
