College football’s winners and losers of transfer portal
(BVM) – The end of the 2022 season brought forth the most chaotic transfer period the NCAA has ever seen. With players swapping from both small and major college programs, the nearly month-long period resulted in what some have dubbed a college free agency. Big names found themselves in new situations as quarterbacks from around the country looked for a chance at starting spots.

While new coaching hires played a major hand in some of the roster turnover, some schools opted for quality over quantity as they tried to lock down the missing pieces of their roster. The period has added even more intrigue for teams around the country, with first-hand examples like USC, who enjoyed a return to glory following the transfer additions of quarterback Caleb Williams and wide receiver Jordan Addison in 2022.
