Top 10 NFL rookie head coaching seasons
2. 1977: Red Miller, Denver Broncos (9-5 to 12-2)
Prior to Miller taking over ahead of the 1977 season, the Denver Broncos had not had a double-digit win season since their founding in 1960. The Broncos had gotten close in 1976, going 9-5 during John Ralston’s final season as head coach. In 1977, Miller led Denver to the franchise’s best regular season record ever finishing 12-2. He then coached the Broncos to their first Super Bowl appearance. Unfortunately, the team lost Super Bowl XII to the Dallas Cowboys.
