Top 10 Fighting Illini men’s basketball players of all time
6. Luther Head
One of the best postseason performers in program history, Head was a consistent weapon for the Illini during his time in Champaign, even though his play picked up when it mattered most. Head was a consensus second-team All-American as a senior in 2005 after he led Illinois in scoring with 15.9 points. That year, he also led the Big Ten in 3-point shots made with 116, which set an Illini program record.
During the 2005 run to the Final Four, Head earned three accolades during the postseason: Big Ten All-Tournament Team, NCAA Chicago Regional All-Tournament Team and NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team. Head still ranks 27th all-time at Illinois in scoring with 1,295 points, ninth in career 3-pointers with 209 and 11th in career steals with 158.
