Ranking the top 5 offensive coordinator candidates for Commanders

4. Pat Shurmur, former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator

Shurmur is the first candidate the Commanders interviewed for the position and was most recently the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos from 2020-21. He has 23 years of NFL coaching experience and had two stints as a head coach with the Cleveland Browns (2011-12) and New York Giants (2018-19). In addition to his time as the Broncos offensive coordinator, Shurmur has served in that role for the Rams (2009-10), Eagles (2013-15) and Vikings (2017).

The Eagles were second in yards (417.3) and scoring (27.6 points) while LeSean McCoy led the NFL in rushing yards (1,607) and scrimmage yards (2,146) during Shurmur’s first season leading the Philadelphia offense. Shurmur would bring the most experience of any of the Commanders’ candidates, something such a youthful offense could benefit from.
