Ranking the top 5 offensive coordinator candidates for Commanders
5. Eric Studesville, Miami Dolphins associate head coach/RBs coach
The Commanders have already completed an interview with Studesville for their vacant offensive coordinator position and it’s easy to see why. Hours before firing Turner, Rivera told the media that his “philosophical belief” is to be a run-first offense. That would bode well for Studesville who has coached running backs in the NFL since 2001. He spent time as the running backs coach, offensive coordinator and interim head coach of the Denver Broncos (2010-16) and helped the franchise win Super Bowl 50.
Studesville is credited for the emergence of Tiki Barber (Giants), Willis McGahee and Marshawn Lynch (Buffalo Bills), among others. The long-time assistant joined the Miami Dolphins staff in 2018 and has survived three coaching changes (Adam Gase, Brian Flores, Mike McDaniel). If Rivera and the Commanders want to double down on their run-first approach, Studesville could be the choice.
