Top 10 Florida State men’s basketball players of all time
3. George McCloud (1985-89)
Like a couple of others on this list, McCloud was at Florida State all four years of his college career, and vastly improved from the time he came into the program to the time he left, so much so that his number now hangs in the rafters in Tallahassee. Playing for Joe Williams as a freshman, McCloud’s collegiate career began slowly as he saw around just 10 minutes per game. With a new head coach in Kennedy arriving in 1987, McCloud upped his averages to nearly eight points and over four rebounds as a sophomore. By his junior year, the 6-foot-6 guard had taken a dramatic leap, averaging 18.2 points while shooting over 45% from 3-point range, earning the first of two first-team All-Metro conference honors. As a senior, McCloud scored nearly 23 points per contest, and was named the Metro Conference Player of the Year as well as a third-team All-American. He helped lead FSU to the NCAA Tournament in each of his final two seasons in Tallahassee before going on to play in the NBA, and currently sits seventh on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1,574 career points.
