D-I schools with men’s basketball and football national titles
Stanford (one basketball, one football)
The Cardinal won national championships in both sports early in the collegiate lives of the game. Stanford was named the 1926 national champion in football though in later rankings they would be named co-champions with Alabama as the two tied 7-7 in the 1926 Rose Bowl.
Just four years into the NCAA tournament’s existence, the Cardinal hoisted the national championship trophy with a 53-38 win over Dartmouth in the 1942 title game. Stanford has never gone back to a college basketball title game and has only ever had one other claim of a national title for football, though it is not officially recognized by the NCAA.
