2023 March Madness 1st round bracket breakdown: South Region

No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 16 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi/Southeast Missouri State

Alabama enters March Madness as the No. 1 overall seed after taking care of business in the SEC tournament to complete its sweep of the conference. The Tide are led by one of the best players in the country and projected lottery pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Brandon Miller. Alabama is firing on all cylinders with an electric offense and strong defense. The Tide could easily roll all the way to Houston and a national title.

Texas A&M-CC was the best team in the Southland Conference Tournament from start to finish and is making its second straight tournament appearance. The Islanders have shot the ball well all season, 40% from three during league play, and will rely on their three-point shooting in the tournament.

Southeast Missouri State is riding high after an overtime win against Tennessee Tech in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament championship to earn an automatic bid. The Redhawks made an offensive run to get into the tournament and they will have to rely on offense to get the chance to play Alabama.
