Ranking the top 10 Chicago White Sox players of all time
8. Minnie Minoso, LF, 1951-57; 1960-61; 1964, 1976, 1980
Minoso was not only the first Black player in White Sox history, he’s also one of the best. A 13-time All-Star, he led the AL in stolen bases for three consecutive seasons (1951-53) and helped the “Go-Go” White Sox become one of the top teams of the 1950s. Speed wasn’t the only component to Minoso’s game, either, as he also held the White Sox career home run record from 1956-1974. The franchise retired Minoso’s No. 9 jersey in 1983 and nearly 40 years later, he was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022.
Right where he belongs.
