3. Ed Walsh, P, 1904-1916

Walsh was one of the best pitchers in baseball for the majority of his 13-year stint with the White Sox. He won 40 games in 1908 (one of just two pitchers to do so) and is the last pitcher from any team to throw more than 400 innings in a single season (1908). Walsh won a pair of ERA titles (1907, 1910) and is etched in history as the MLB’s all-time leader in that category (1.81). The 1906 World Series champion was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame exactly 40 years later.

May 2, 1887: Eddie Collins born in Millerton, New York. White Sox second baseman 1915-26. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1939.
