Top 10 all-time Game 7 winning performances in NBA history
7. Calvin Murphy, 1981 Western Conference semifinals, 42 points vs. the San Antonio Spurs
Murphy had the best playoff performance of his Hall of Fame career in one of the most important games of his career. The Rockets failed to finish the series at home against the Spurs and had to go to San Antonio for Game 7. However, the hostile crowd didn’t seem to phase Murphy, who scored 42 points on 67.9% shooting from the field to finish the upset of San Antonio. Houston entered the playoffs with a losing record but were able to beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round to earn the chance to play the No. 2-seeded Spurs in the conference semifinals. Thanks to Murphy, the Rockets survived the series and after beating the Kansas City Kings in the Western Conference Finals, they became the last NBA team to ever make it to the NBA Finals after having a losing record during the regular season. Houston lost in the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics in six games.
