D’Angelo Russell set for free agency; Top 5 landing spots
4. Los Angeles Lakers
Although it has looked unlikely at times this offseason that Russell will return to Los Angeles, the Lakers could still see the 6-foot-4 point guard as one of their best options at the position. The team did just draft Jalen Hood-Schifino with its first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, but for a franchise in win-now mode towards the end of LeBron James’ career, it’s fair to question if the Lakers are willing to trust a rookie guard to run the show. The Lakers also will need to make decisions on the likes of Dennis Schroder and Austin Reaves, so Russell’s return to L.A. could hinge on that, as well as the possibility of the Lakers seeking another veteran guard. Things didn’t necessarily end on a high note for Russell in Los Angeles last season, but it’s possible he returns if both parties see him as the best fit for a title run next year.
