D’Angelo Russell set for free agency; Top 5 landing spots
2. Miami Heat
The Heat are coming off an appearance in the NBA Finals, but their roster could still use some improvement going into next season, particularly in the backcourt. With Gabe Vincent a free agent, Miami’s only point guard under contract currently is an aging Kyle Lowry. They’ve been rumored to be seeking backcourt help already this offseason, and recently, Trail Blazers All-Star Damian Lillard expressed interest in playing in South Beach. Should that happen, Russell also heading to Miami would be very unlikely, but if the Heat miss out on Lillard, bringing in the Ohio State product could be a nice plan B. Although they got hot in the playoffs, the Heat lacked offensive firepower and perimeter shooting most of last season, something Russell could provide as part of a strong starting lineup featuring Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro.
